How to Connect an Existing Domain to Your Hosting

1. Confirm the domain and hosting account. Make sure the domain is active and that the Tanco Tech Hosting service you want to connect is ready.

2. Review the required DNS or nameserver values. Use the hosting details provided in your account rather than guessing server information. If the domain already handles business email or other services, save the current DNS records before making changes.

3. Update the domain at the registrar or DNS provider. Replace only the records or nameservers required for the hosting connection. DNS changes can take time to propagate across the internet, so the old and new destination may be seen at different times during the transition.

4. Verify the website, SSL and email. Once the domain resolves to Tanco Tech Hosting, open the site over HTTPS and confirm important pages, forms and email continue to work. Contact support if the domain does not resolve correctly after propagation.

Before changing DNS

Keep your current website and email service active until the new hosting environment is ready. Make sure you have the correct nameservers or DNS records for your Tanco Tech Hosting service before changing anything at the domain registrar.

Connection process

  1. Open your Tanco Tech Hosting account or hosting setup information and identify the nameservers or DNS records assigned to your service.
  2. Sign in to the company where your domain is currently registered.
  3. Open the domain's DNS or nameserver settings.
  4. Replace only the records required for the new hosting configuration.
  5. Save the changes and allow time for DNS information to update across the internet.

Do not forget email

If the domain currently uses email with another provider, changing nameservers can also affect mail records. Confirm where email should continue to be delivered before changing DNS.

After the change

  • Open the website using both the root domain and www version if used.
  • Check that HTTPS works after DNS points to the hosting account.
  • Test forms and important pages.
  • Send and receive a test email if the domain uses email.
Important: DNS changes can take time to be seen everywhere. Avoid repeatedly changing the records while propagation is still in progress.
